Through a generous gift from the Sudduth Family, the Sudduth House & property on North Van Buren Street in Carthage has been deeded to the local Dancing Rabbit Genealogical & Historical Society.  Built in 1858, the Sudduth House is the oldest existing house in Carthage and possibly Leake County.

A jewel with historical significance for the citizens and visitors of Carthage and Leake County as well, the Sudduth Home is ready to shine again…with a little help from “friends.”

The DRGHS team has recently had the home examined, expecting that with the advanced age of the dwelling, the “jewel” had been tarnished throughout the years.  The analysis found some substantial issues that will require restorative efforts.

The DRGHS restoration plan stage has begun and the group is seeking options to fund the work.

NEEDED:

Trades-persons willing to donate time, provide leadership, tools and perhaps supplies for the work needed.

Novice helpers—regardless of your skill level—there is a way you can donate your time for this project.

Your tax-deductible dollars—MOST important at this juncture!

Volunteers to supply workers with snacks, beverages and perhaps even lunch.

To make a tax-deductible donation, mail to:  DRGHS, P.O. Box 166, Carthage, MS 39051

The DRGHS will forward you a tax-deductible receipt for your generosity.

If you can help with the other requests, please contact:
Some things are just worth the effort…a labor of love….
We hope you think so too and will donate your dollars and/or your time to this worthy project for our current hometown or former hometown and community.
